Role

Croydon Faces and Places is a personal photographic exploration I undertook as I prepared to leave Croydon, where I had lived for years. This project traces my walks from West to East Croydon, documenting the diversity of residents and visitors I encountered along the way. I aimed to better understand Croydon’s reputation and challenge the perceptions I had heard, as I have always experienced it as a place of safety and community.
The goal was to capture the essence of Croydon through candid street portraits and landscape scenes, showcasing the rich diversity and warmth of the people I met. My walks became a journey of rediscovery, revealing the layers that make Croydon a special place in my life.
One challenge I faced was the delicate nature of street photography—capturing genuine, unposed moments while preserving the dignity and humanity of my subjects. By approaching each interaction with respect, I connected with a wide range of individuals who shared their experiences of life in Croydon.
The outcome is a collection of portraits and scenes that invite viewers to reconsider Croydon’s narrative. It serves as a visual dialogue with the community, grounded in personal interactions and lived experiences, showcasing the beauty, resilience, and diversity that often goes unnoticed.
